Canvas Information

All middle and high school students need a student account on Canvas. Each student in your family needs his own email address and his own Canvas account. You can create a parent account and link all your students to it. Still, it's easier for parents to use their child's login information periodically to check on student progress rather than using a parent account.

Go to Canvas and click on the "Need An Account? Click Here It's Free" link at the top of the page.

Choose STUDENT ACCOUNT.

Use a JOIN CODE from one of your CHEB classes. Teachers will be sending an email with these codes or posting them in the class descriptions on this website.

Please use the student's email to create your login on Canvas. This will allow teachers to send messages directly to your student's email account through Canvas. If your student does not already have a Canvas account, we recommend a free Gmail account.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Some of our teachers have set up their Canvas account using k12.instructure.com and others use canvas.instructure.com. These are both free tools from the same company and interact well once you are enrolled in your class. However, if you set up an account on k12.instructure and are trying to use your teacher's code from canvas.instructure or vice versa, you will encounter a road block.

The work around is to email your teacher directly with your Username and ask them to add you manually to the class. Once your teacher has added you to the roster, it will show you as pending until you accept the invitation.

ONLINE HOMEWORK SUBMISSIONS

Some teachers will ask students to submit their homework in class, but others will ask students to submit homework through Canvas. Students can type their homework in Microsoft Word or Google Docs and submit the .doc file. Or for handwritten/workbook pages/maps, students should use a mobile app (we recommend Adobe Scan) to turn their pages into PDF files for submission. These are easier to grade online than jpg files and can be organized into one document in the app before submission.
